You must be a people person with great enthusiasm and passion for flying as well the innate ability to smile and welcome your passengers on a daily basis. You will be trained to become the best you can be, however to apply you should already have some core skills.

Minimum 18 months customer facing experience

If you’re starting out as a Flight Attendant, you’ll need proven experience in a customer-facing role working in restaurants, hotels, hospitality, retail or other positions with a customer focus.

Team player

Pulling together as a team is vital for providing excellent customer service and on the rare occasion when there is an emergency working as a team will ensure the best outcome for the situation.

A sense of pride

Delivering our unique brand of Kiwi hospitality, you’ll take great pride and passion in representing New Zealand whether it’s on a domestic flight or a long haul journey.

Physically fit

You will need to be able to swim 50 metres under two minutes and be able to tread water for one minute unaided.

Strong problem solving skills

Wearing a warm smile while keeping a cool head at all times is a vital part of this job. If there’s an emergency, passengers will rely on you to provide advice and instructions. You’ll be called on to help people who may require assistance such as the elderly, people with disabilities, children, infants and passengers who become unwell during the flight.

You will be running the service in the cabin, from safety briefings over the PA to in-flight service, liaising with Pilots and Ground Staff, with multiple short flights in a day and a few overnights around the country each week.

To be considered for this role, you'll need to demonstrate all of the following:

Entitled to work permanently in New Zealand at the time of applying
Full or Restricted New Zealand Driver Licence with reliable transport
Available to work varied shifts on weekends, weekdays, public holidays
Available for overnight stays in other locations regularly
Able to comply with the Air New Zealand Koru Uniform Standards - you will be asked to declare Body Art and we will advise if this complies

This role is all about making great customer connections, creating magic moments that our customers love and remember. You'll naturally engage with people of all backgrounds, and be resilient and able to diffuse tension with ease. To succeed in this role you need to have experience in a people or customer-facing role for at least two years, preferably in a high-pressure environment providing excellent customer service.
